No Torture Forum Saturday, July 26 4:30-7:00 at Unity Temple 875 Lake Street, Oak Park
    Join us on July 26th, for our No Torture Forum, featuring Dr. Frank L. Summers, Marc Falkoff, and Candace Gorman.  Bios of the speakers are bellow

    Dr. Frank Summers is a Clinical Psychologist and professor at Northwestern medical. He has been very active in the fight to try to get the American Psychology Association to prohibit its members from participating in torture, especially at Guantanamo. He makes a strong case that each of us can and must take action to stop this crime against humanity.




     Marc Falkoff is an assistant professor at the NIU college of Law & attorney for 17 Guantanamo detainees.  He’s the editor of the book, “Poems from Guantanamo:Detainees Speak”.



Candace Gorman is a civil rights attorney who's been to Guantanamo several times. She has been part of an effort organized by the Center for Constitutional Rights to provide probono lawyers for the captives the United States took in the "war on terror", and has held in its Guantanamo Bay detainment camps, in Cuba. One of her clients was Abdel Hamid IbnAbdussalem Ibn Mifta Al Ghazzawi.

    On May 24, 2008, Scoville Park was filled with 144 pairs of boots representing each Illinois military person killed in Iraq.  As a new part of the exhibit 23 white boots representing the Illinois veterans that have committed suicide due to the war in Iraq.  AFSC, American Friends Service Committee, provided the boots, and helped run the event.  Additionally over 100 shoes representing the dead Iraqi civilians were present.  Below are some pictures from the event.

 HONK TO IMPEACH - HONK FOR PEACE - PEACE CORNER
 
Every Saturday from 1:00 to 3:00pm (no matter the weather) WCW-OP members and others dedicated to peace and justice are present at the northwest corner of the Harlem Avenue and Lake Street intersection in River Forest urging passing motorists to Honk To Impeach to Honk For Peace!  Everyone is welcome, so if you want to make a difference, please join us!  Some pictures of us and others in action are below.  There is a similar action in front of the Art Institute downtown on Michigan Avenue every Sunday from 1:30 to 3:30pm.

About World Can't Wait - Oak Park

We are a chapter of the national organization www.worldcantwait.org.  World Can't Wait - Oak Park is part of a national movement that is organizing people living in the United States to take responsibility to stop the whole disastrous course led by the Bush administration.


Organizers meet weekly to discuss current issues and plan upcoming events.  WCW - Oak Park has an active presence in demonstrations, lectures and special events throughout the Chicagoland area to show its solidarity with groups and persons who stand against the direction the Bush administration is taking us.


WCW - Oak Park has made significant contributions to WCW on a national level, and the chapter is highly-regarded by WCW national and regional leadership.

Join Us At Our Weekly Meeting!

We meet every Wednesday from 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM at The Buzz Cafe in Oak Park.  At the meetings we discuss current events, plan for upcoming Oak Park and Chicagoland projects and actions, view educational documentaries (such as "Iraq For Sale", "9/11: Press For Truth", etc.) and other things that progress our mission.  Guest speakers from other organizations often visit to share their perspectives, missions and goals with us.  New visitors are enthusuastically and warmly welcomed!
